Soapnuts are a pure and natural detergent, environmentally friendly, allergy free, ecological and economical.
Soapnuts grown in India are harvested in a sustainable way, the nuts are dried and the shells contain saponin, a natural detergent. When added to water they form mild soap suds providing an organic, environmentally friendly alternative to detergent, soap and shampoo.
Soapnuts are allergy free so good for sensitive skin, babies and people with eczema. They contain no chemicals and are a natural organic product. They are biodegradable so simply throw them in your compost bin after use.
As a laundry detergent, simply place 4 to 8 half shells into a cotton bag or old sock, no need for fabric conditioner and wash as normal. The soap nuts can be used for more than one wash, however, discard when they become dark brown and soggy. It is better to use them in several washes during one day to prolong their washing life.
To make a liquid soap to use as hand wash or shampoo, simmer 25g of soapnuts in 500ml of water for between 8 and 10 minutes. Allow the liquid to cool, this can then be strained or placed in a blender, you can then add your favorite fragrance or ingredients to make the handwash or shampoo of your choice, or you can simply leave it pure and natural.
Soapnuts can also be used to make a household cleaner, used on pets or even used to wash the car or anything that you like really.
Please ensure that soap nuts are contained securely in either a drawstring bag, an odd sock or then end of a pair of tights of stockings. Please check the filter on your washing machine on a regular basis.
