Fish! We adopted a fish pond with 7 Koi Carp, we had absolutely no idea about Koi and their needs, we were handed a lot of chemical and had to get on with it, Bicarbonate of Soda and Epsom Salts were not included. As it was, after one fish sadly died, it was decided that the fish should go to a better home.
We had no idea that we could use the products that we sell to help the fish along.
Uses of Bicarbonate of Soda for Fish. BUY HERE
- Raises pH level
- Helps increase the pH of acidic aquarium water
- Useful for fish that prefer alkaline water
- Increases alkalinity (KH)
- Stabilizes water conditions
- Prevents sudden pH changes that can stress fish
- Emergency treatment
- Sometimes used to reduce acidity during sudden pH crashes in ponds or aquariums
Important Precautions
- Use only small measured amounts
- Sudden changes in pH can harm or kill fish
- Dissolve it in water before adding to the tank
- Test water regularly using an aquarium test kit
Epsom salt is sometimes used in fish ponds, but it should be used carefully because it affects water chemistry and fish health differently from ordinary pond salt.
What Epsom salt is used for in ponds BUY HERE
1. Helping constipated or bloated fish
Commonly used for:
- Swollen fish
- Mild fluid retention
- Constipation in koi or goldfish
It acts as a mild osmotic laxative and can help reduce swelling.
2. Reducing mild edema
Some pond keepers use it when fish show:
- Pine coning scales
- Fluid build up
- Mild buoyancy problems
But it is not a cure for infections or serious disease.
3. Increasing magnesium
Rarely, ponds with very soft water may benefit from small magnesium additions.
Now I am not an expert when it comes to fish, however I am currently researching fish, ponds, aquariums and actual fishing, hope to spend a day out soon with a fishing rod and some Fullers Earth but that is for another blog.
We suggest if you are interested in using the above ingredients that you further your research for how to use with your fishies. BUY HERE
