For Fishing and Garden use.
Fuller's Earth is commonly used in coarse fishing bait mixes, especially in river fishing, because it helps bind groundbait and create a cloud in the water without adding much food value.
- Binding agent – helps balls of groundbait stay together during casting.
- Clouding effect – creates a fine cloud that can attract species like roach, bream, and skimmers.
- Adds weight – useful in flowing rivers so bait reaches the bottom.
- Reduces feed content – lets you bulk up a mix without overfeeding fish.
- Fuller's Earth has traditionally been used by fly anglers as a natural degreasing material.
Classic use:
- Mix a small amount with water into a paste or slurry.
- Apply lightly to the leader/tippet.
- Wipe or pinch along the line.
It absorbs oils and removes floatant effectively.
Fullers Earth has several uses in the garden, slug deterrent being a very popular use.
- Soil Amendment for Sandy Soils: Mixing it into sandy soil helps it retain moisture and nutrients that would otherwise wash away.
- Compost Enhancer: Adding a small amount (around 10%) to your compost pile can improve its mineral content and nutrient-holding ability.
- Slug Deterrent: Some gardeners use it as a dry barrier around plants to dehydrate slugs, though it must be reapplied after rain.
And for pets: - Dry Shampoo & Grooming: You can rub the powder into a pet's coat to absorb excess oils and dirt, which helps extend the time between full baths.
- Dust Baths: Small animals like chinchillas and degus use it for daily dust baths to keep their dense fur clean and oil-free.
